Black Freighter on DVD?

Posted by boredomfestival on February 2, 2009

Interesting… I had heard that the “Black Freighter” would be a bonus for the (eventual) Watchmen DVD release. Now it seems they are going to release it as a standalone DVD on March 24:

The “Tales of the Black Freighter” subplot director Zack Snyder cut from the upcoming Watchmen movie will resurface as its own animated DVD adventure March 24.

Including the voice of 300’s Gerard Butler, “The Black Freighter” tells of a man’s ill-fated attempt to save his family from a ghostly pirate ship.

The DVD will also feature a re-creation of Watchmen’s “Under the Hood,” a fictional, autobiographical film written by the story’s original Nite Owl, Hollis Mason.

Tales Of The Black Freighter on DVD?

Posted by boredomfestival on May 26, 2008

A few months back it was reported that TOTBF was going to be an “extra” for the Watchmen DVD. Now it’s apparently going to be an entirely separate DVD…

The twist is that Mr. Snyder, known for turning the Spartan comic book series “300” into a global hit movie, is also directing a separate-but-related picture that Warner plans to distribute exclusively on DVD.

The second film, tentatively called “Tales of the Black Freighter,” follows a side “Watchmen” storyline about a shipwreck and will arrive in stores five days after the main movie rolls out in theaters. The DVD will also include a documentary-style film called “Under the Hood” that will delve into the characters’ backstories.

Interesting. Sounds good to me. Let’s just hope that it’s not done in “anime-style”, as earlier reported…
